Our Yellowstone Reining Horse Association Rules & Regulations document was revised on February 15, 2014. Under Item #3, Year-End Awards and Show Rules, the new rule reads:

In the following classes, the rider may show in any legal bit and may use one or two hands AND MAY SWITCH FROM ONE HAND TO TWO HANDS OR TWO HANDS TO ONE HAND: NRHA Freestyle, NRHA Youth 10 & Under Short Stirrup, NRHA Green Reiner Level 1 & 2, Two-handed Youth, Green Horse, and 3-Year Old Open & Non Pro.

NRHA recently introduced the new Green Reiner Level I and II classes to make it easier for new reiners to get involved in the sport and participate in NRHA-approved shows. All it takes is an inexpensive $20 Associate Membership and your participation in a Green Reiner class at a show in your area, and you have an opportunity to win an award jacket and a Montana Silversmiths buckle from NRHA!

In the NRHA's Entry Level Program, you compete with other beginner riders. Your local reining horse clubs (in Montana and Wyoming these include YRHA, MRHA, NRRHA and CSRHA) offer NRHA Green Reiner classes for beginning riders at their shows.

ESPECIALLY FOR BEGINNING NON-PRO REINERS

Beginning in 2012, the YRHA Green Rookie class is open only to those riders who have earned points in previous years and are still working toward accumulating the necessary 30 points to graduate and earn the Green Rookie belt buckle. Also beginning in 2012, YRHA will be offering two new classes for beginning non pro reiners: NRHA Green Reiner Level 1 and NRHA Green Reiner Level 2.

New Field Service Offered by NRHA

NRHA horse competition licenses can now be processed at NRHA shows. There is important information you need to know to take advantage of this service.

Exhibitors/owners must have the appropriate paperwork. The horse's registration papers must have the same owner(s) listed as on the competition license appication and the owner(s) must be current NRHA members. For grade horses, 4 color photos (photos will not be returned) must accompany the competition license application.

Every month in the Reiner magazine the Adequan North American Affiliate Championships & NRHA Affiliate Circuit Series is explained in detail. NRHA states that its aim is to increase the emphasis in ”grass roots” reining and continue to promote our sport at all levels.

The NRHA is the governing body of the sport of reining. Under its watch are the local or statewide affiliates. There are approximately 55 affiliates in the U.S.
